Arthur King

I have been working regularly in sketchbooks for over 20 years, in that time I have come to realize that the process of working in my sketchbook is like watching a favorite television show. The show is reliable, like my sketchbook, I know the characters and every week they get themselves into a variety of situations that must be resolved by the end of the episode. No matter how many times I revisit the episodes I find new ways to explore the possibilities within the storylines.

A one sketchbook time-lapse look at the creative process as it flows and morphs from page to page. All ideas are important in the process of discovery.

Command Z

This is a process video that follows the creation of a character from sketchbook to digital. The creation of the character in the sketchbook is real and physical, the digital world allows me to take the image into a virtual reality that can morph and change as easy as command Z.

Bay Area Cryptids

In the digital world characters can take on new life and have altered meaning. This is part of an ongoing series called Bay Area Cryptids, the series lives on Twitter. Note : This is the same character shown above.

Bay Area Cryptids

Working with one foot in both the physical and digital worlds allows me to take a character and give it new life after the sketchbook work is complete. This guy was destined to become a Cryptid, even though it was still a rough idea at the time that didn’t even have an identity.
