Wood and bamboo sticks
“This was originally a project for my sculpture class. I think this piece is applicable to the theme “Change” as well in that the black wood pieces represent the fires we have experienced and the bamboo sticks represent new life and opportunity sprouting from the ashes.”

Covid box
Packing box, various scraps and things
“I keep packaging around my studio. I saw this around the time we began to shelter in place. I started tossing in small things that were meaningful to me. The viewer can construct their own narrative from the given objects.”

Calm Before the Storm
Bronze
“During difficult times it’s important to surround yourself with things that create peace, sense of accomplishment, and refresh the soul. Working with bronze for the first time I wanted to create something that when looking back I saw images of a connection with nature and keeping close things that matter. ”

Subhuman Shell
Tape, newspaper
“This pandemic has been a time of great anxiety. Left unchecked, it could consume them and make them feel exhausted, desperate, and less human over time.“Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.”

Changes Come: Pre/Post
Mixed media, found/reclaimed object
After a traumatic brain injury in 2018, my personality changed in both subtle and dramatic ways. This piece plays with the pre-post contrast by highlighting the social shift: from outgoing, life-of-the-party people-person to solitary, easily-overstimulated homebody.

“Developed for Sculpture I, Course 1327 - The work represents three objects related to the theme of memory and personal growth using hollow form casting from paper mache'. Inside the (soul) of the heel is the personal story between the shoe and its owner.”

Nature Made 1
Reed grass, eucalyptus bark, pampas grass
stem, unknown plant dry leaves
I made this site specific installation at the hallway of my studio by natural material I collected. This was an assignment from ART102: Intro to 3D Design and Sculpture in Summer20. My work has been primarily in 2D with geometric forms in realistic style. Using organic material to make abstract work challenged me and changed my perspective. I am now looking at nature subject much more in my daily life.

“While indecision is ever present, ideas flow out eventually. Keep at whatever you’re working on and it will all work itself through. Beauty will come out of the structure eventually.”
